The Brazil international feels he will be third in the pecking order
but hopes to cement a spot in the first team and is relishing facing
ex-Santos team-mate Neymar in the Clasico
Real Madrid 's Danilo has said that he is aiming to overtake Dani
Carvajal and Alvaro Arbeloa as the team's first choice right-back
this season.
The €31.5 million signing will be teaming up with los Blancos for
the first time in pre-season after his transfer from Porto was made
official in March.
And though the 23-year-old admitted he still had to prove himself
to new boss Rafael Benitez, he declared his ambition to earn
a spot in the starting XI.
"Right now, I'm third choice for the right-back spot," Danilo
told Marca.
"Carvajal and Arbeloa have made history together
with the club, and I must win my place in the side."
The futures of team-mates Iker Casillas and Sergio Ramos are
currently in doubt, as both have been linked to moves away from
Santiago Bernabeu, with a move to Manchester United heavily touted
for the latter.
But Danilo is certain the pair still have much to contribute to
Madrid, stating:
"They are historic players who can support us in
times of difficulty."
The defender's switch to the Spanish capital will see him come head
to head with Barcelona forward and former Santos team-mate
Neymar in the Clasico next term and, after confirming on
Monday he had already spoken with his compatriot ahead of his
move , Danilo insisted he was relishing the challenge of stopping him:
"I've joked with Neymar about the Clasico and said I would rarely
defend."
