Mr. Government Ekpemupolo, aka Tompolo, has alleged a persistent threat to his family and associates from government security agencies.
Tompolo, the former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND), made the comment in a press statement signed by him and emailed to newsmen on Friday in Warri.
The embattled ex-MEND leader said he had written severally to President Muhammadu Buhari stating clearly his positions on the allegations leveled against him by some “disgruntled persons who do not like him in the state."
He said that this might be the last time he would write the president.
It would be recalled that Tompolo was invited by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over fraud charges.
The ex-militant leader reiterated that his present travail with the EFCC would not lead to violence or destruction of pipelines and other oil facilities.
Tompolo also said that he does not know or have anything to do with the Niger Delta Avengers who have almost crippled oil production and the economy with their recent attacks on oil installations.
“I wish to write your Excellency once again on the continuous harassment and intimidation of my family members and close associates by your security agencies.
“The latest victims of this unwarranted, misdirected and wicked act are Mr. Simeon Bebenimibo, a member of the Delta Waterway and Land Security Committee and a driver of one of my aides, Mr. Ebipade Kari.
“Also the military men stormed the house of one of my younger brothers, and harassed his pregnant wife with guns pointed at her,’’ he said.
Tompolo said he only agreed to sell his property, Mieka International Driving School for the take-off of the Nigerian Maritime University in Okerenkoko because of his desire to attract development to the coastal terrains.
