President Muhammadu Buhari has directed that the proposed film village in his name be stopped. The film had been proposed to be sited at Kofa area.
A source in the Presidency confirmed to SaharaReporters that the President gave in to pressures from several quarters especially from Islamic clerics who had vowed to mobilize Muslims against the project.
Some hard-line Islamic preachers have been in the forefront of kicking against the "Film Village" which they described as un-Islamic and plot to undermine Islam and bring immorality.
As at the time of publishing this report, our correspondent gathered that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters, Kawu Sumaila has conveyed President Buhari’s official position on the matter to the Kano state government.
SaharaReporters was told that Sumaila explained to the Kano state government that President Buhari decided to cancel the project because of the opposition staged by some Islamic clerics and people of Kano state.
Sumaila also absolved the President from "Film Village" and naming it after him, instead, he said it was a lawmaker from the area who wanted the project since it was captured in the 2016 budget before the National Film Corporation started working on the initiative.
