-list actors such as Joke Silva, Kehinde Bankole, Rita Dominic and Joseph Benjamin were among the stars on tour for the new movie and the reception has been relatively big.
Beyond Blood is a story of discovery – an uninflected series of scenes or moments that take the viewers on a journey of how a woman (the central character, Moji) rediscovers herself.
It is a story of love, betrayal, hope and a desire to make a positive change in society irrespective of personal trials and tribulations.
It was shot in English, Pidgin, French, Yoruba and Albanian language with locations in Lagos Nigeria, London UK, Paris France and Berlin, Germany.
Moji is faced with a series of situations far beyond her control. Rather than confront the situation, she decides to “run” away in the hope that in her search for her brother, she will rediscover him and herself and have the time to think through her life and make those life changing decisions that will put her on the path of confrontation of the society in which she finds herself
Moji, is a young Oxford graduate with a passion for social justice and equality. Her privileged background contrasts sharply with the desperate conditions of the prostitutes, drug-addicts and their children that she cares for at The Mansion – a centre she funds privately much to the disapproved of some in her social circle.
Trapped in a culture and tradition that legitimises tyranny and injustice, she becomes engaged to Benjy, the eldest son of Uncle Georgy, her father’s best friend who saved the family business from bankruptcy a few years back when Tunji, the spoilt last born of the family had abused his position of trust in the company, lost a huge amount of money and escaped to the UK, unable to come to terms with the consequences of his recklessness. This included the untimely death of his young niece who died of typhoid, creating an implacable hatred between Lanre, (The eldest brother and father of the dead child) and Tunji.
Against the backdrop of both families preparing for the wedding that was destined to draw the families even closer, Susan, a young prostitute who Moji took off the street into the Mansion, dies from HIV/AIDS, leaving behind two young children. Moji had unthinkingly agreed to adopt them should anything happen to Susan. A distraught Moji returns unannounced to Benjy, her fiancé, in whose bed she’d been when Susan died, only to find him in bed with their best friend, Tope. This leaves her deeply confused. Is her fiancé, Benjy a homosexual?
