RESIDENTS of Kudeyibu Estate in Ijegun has protested at Ikeja Electric in Alausa over the non-replacement of the community’s transformer after an earlier transformer of lower capacity was rejected.
According to the Chairman of the community, Lawal Jelili, the resident have been in darkness over eight months since the IKEDC removed the transformer from the area and promised to replace it with new one that has enough capacity to serve the community.

Jelili stated that, the former 500mw transformer got spoilt and after series of consultation with PHCN, they brought another transformer of 300mw which is very low in capacity to serve the community and they took it back to their office following which the entire community has since been suffering from lack of electricity in the area.

He said, we have been moving round from one DISCO office to another with different complaint letter for the PHCN authority to replace the transformer but all the efforts to achieve the positive response proved abortive.

In his words, “since the DISCO refused to listen to our cries, the community has decided to go into action by showing the grievances through this peaceful protest in Ikeja Electricity office, which I believe will certainly produce a positive result this time around.

The youth leader in the community, Azeez Binuyo said:“We are appealing to the PHCN to bring back our transformer because there is no life without electricity and it has paralyzed our day-to-day business activity in the area.
