APC attacks Governor Fayose over allegations on President Muhammadu Buhari
– The party says Fayose has made Ekiti state a laughing stock among decent people
– APC believes Fayose is guilty of religious bigotry
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state has hit back at Governor Ayodele Fayose over his allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari is plotting to Islamize Nigeria. In a statement yesterday, February 28, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the party publicity secretary described Fayose’s latest attack on Buhari as “a disgraceful conduct intended to sway public sympathy in his favour”, The Nation reports.
According to Olatunbosun, Governor Fayose’s public conduct “has made Ekiti state people a laughing stock among decent people and has put the state at the receiving end of Nigerians’ evaluation of Ekiti people’s character”.
Olatunbosun alleges that Fayose’s rants could be traced to a deliberate scheme to set Nigerians against the President.
“Buhari has been fair to adherents of other religions. “If anyone is guilty of religious bigotry, it is Fayose who did not deem it fit to consider Muslims for appointments in his administration,” Olatunbosun said. Olayunbosun however urged the governor to apply himself to the new spirit of a New Nigeria, where Nigerians live in religious and political harmony. He said: “We have always raised the alarm that Fayose is dangerous and a threat to the law. “We advise Nigerians to see him as a rabble rouser bent on sabotaging our unity for his private comfort.”
Fayose had on Saturday, February 27, alleged that the recent trip of Buhari to Saudi Arabia was to formalise ways of Islamising the country. He made this statement addressing crowds at the inter-denominational thanksgiving and victory service for Governor, Nyesom Wike of Rivers state in Port Harcourt.
Fayose asked the audience whether he should reveal some secret information about APC government and after receiving affirmative answer said: “They have started subtle moves to make Nigeria an Islamic nation, but God will stop them. This was done in 1984, it failed, it would fail again.”
