....as NSC train associations on ICTN
The President of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Chief Eugene Nweke, has commenced the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) for training freight forwarders on the importance of International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN) which is currently one of the basic requirements for ISPS Code.
At the training which took place NAGAFF headquarter in Apapa, was well attended by heads of four other sister associations, who calmly digest the lecture as a lots of shape practices and fervalious charges by shipping companies were also reviled.
According to the NAGAFF president while expanciating on the benefits of Advance Cargo Declaration (ACD) which gives the exact statistics of cargoes coming into Nigeria said in as much as some neighboring countries have gone ahead of Nigeria in this aspect, Nigeria is also better than some orders countries yet to key into this same system.
"I admonished you NAGAFF members and other associations to support the Federal Government to make this system work. This few months NSC is test running it. But with our collaborative efforts we will help reduce the cost of transacting business in our ports" he said.
Earlier in his presentation, the Manager Communications/Technical support of Transport and Port Management System (TPMS) Opeyemi Oke said it became necessary for NSC to create wariness to freight forwarders so that they will on the benefits of ACD to the nation and ICTN. Adding that after the training, most of the freight forwarders will know what is required of them when they are collecting a job from their various importers.
During the audio presentation Oke said Entry Summary Number (ENSN) or Exit Summary Number (EXSN), are the major two components required for ACD. Stating that any of this numbers gives authority to a cargo to sail in Nigeria. Adding that without the provision of this numbers by the importers that cargo will be returned back to the original point of loading. With an alert been placed on it.
While elaborating on the benefits of ACD to the Nigerian economy, Okey said order government agencies working in the ports will be able to access more information about that particular cargo via his network which will eliminate the issue of under declaration on the Bill of loading and manifest.
