RED-HOT Nigerian international, Odion Ighalo is among the sport personalities who hailed from Edo State to be honoured today at the maiden edition of the Edo Football Association Awards.
Ighalo who has 14 goals so far in the English Premier League for Watford is to get the Player of the Year award (foreign-based).
Also, reigning FIFA U-17 World Cup winner with record 10 goals, Victor Osimhen, is listed for the Young Player of the Year award, while former Enyimba coach, Kadiri Ikhana is to be presented with the Coach of the Year award by Edo FA.
The event is scheduled to hold at the Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Benin City.
Chairman of Edo FA, Frank Ilaboya, said that the ceremony is organised to celebrate Edo State indigenes who have contributed to the growth and development of football in the state and beyond.
“Ighalo is very happy with the recognition from his state and even though he won’t be able to attend the ceremony because of the ongoing EPL season, his wife will receive the award on his behalf,” Ilaboya said in a release.
Others listed for various awards include the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) boss, Mr Pinnick Amaju (Football Personality of The Year); Chris Okaeben (Administrator of The Year), Austin Eguavoen; (Football Ambassador of Edo) and Otamere Nelson (Referee of The Year).
Also, veteran coaches Alabi Aisien, Sebastian Brodericks-Imasuen and Amodu Shaibu, alongside Abel Ehigie, Faith Irabor and Larry Izamoje, among others are listed for special recognition awards.
