At the service of songs on Tuesday, 2ndFebruary 2016, at the secretariat of Tin Can Chapter, tributes galore flooded in for the late secretary of the Chapter – Evangelist Chuks David Kanikwu.

After the Praise and Worship, Prince Taiye Micheal Oyeniyi – Secretary of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of ANLCA, led the array of professional colleagues of the fallen gallant customs broker and leader of men, to extol the exemplary virtues of Chuks David Kanikwu, as a leader in the Maritime Industry.

Others like the principal staff officer (PSO) to the ANLCA President – Ashiwaju Bolade Oladipo, the acting Assistant National Secretary – Tope Ogungbemile, Former Secretary of Tin Can Chapter – Joseph Dele Iboma, Igbo Maritime leader in Tin Can-Chief Charles Taylor, and a host of others recalled their various encounters with the late Chuks David Kanikwu.

Variously, they said late Evangelist Kanikwu meant so much to them that his physical absence and essence, will be greatly missed by them and indeed, virtually everyone that has had cause to interact with him
The Chairman of Tin Can Chapter – Prince (Dr.) Kayode Adetayo Oyinlola, spoke of how very loyal his late secretary was to him. He said that even when, at a point in the historical relationship he had with him, late Kanikwu wanted to be his Vice Chairman in his first dispensation, and even after having paid all his dues, somehow, he vanished into thin air, only to resurface in NAGAFF.

As fate would have it, when he (Prince Oyinlola) decided to seek a second tenure, late Kanikwu surfaced again to be his Vice Chairman. This was never to be, as late Kanikwu made the ultimate sacrifice of stepping down to be secretary, for the current Vice Chairman – Barr. Ada Akpunonu. This, it was later learnt that there was an arrangement within the Igbo Maritime Forum, inspite of the fact that all expenses was paid by Prince (Dr.) Kayode Oyinlola – The Chairman of the chapter.

Almost close to shedding tears again, after revealing that for 35 years of his life, he never sheded tears like he did when David Chuks Kanikwu died. He concluded that late David Kanikwu was an embodiment of selfless service and undoubtable loyalty.

May the gentle soul of the departed Secretary of Tin can rest in peace

Pastor Audu delivered a powerful sermon which directed the minds of those that came for the service of songs, to the vanity of life. He stated that it is the good legacy that is done by everyone while on earth, that lingers on, on end. He said everyone must endeavor to live an exemplary life, for posterity to judge them rightly.

A wake keeping was held at the Cynergy Hotel, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos by the Igbo Maritime forum. The program, which commenced after the TinCan Chapter’s service of songs, was a mark of respect for one of their own, who distinguished himself in the service of the organization.
